“Soundscape” - (2022)
The landscape of New York City is easily identifiable through the sonic environment that is created. The
sounds of the streets, the trains, the people laughing and crying throughout it all. When one leaves the
space, the memory of what it feels like to live there still exists within our minds. The feeling persists, the
sound of a memory invokes what it feels like to live within the city. Through the lens of the nostalgic form
that is mixtape making, I look to capture the memory of what New York feels like. The sight and the
sound, how I move in this place and how this place moves withins me. As I leave this space, how do I
hold onto what I feel as the city becomes nothing but a memory. In the creation of a soundscape, I look
to document the last four years through the sounds of the city and through the music that has carried
me though. Accompanying the soundscape is a booklet with photographs from my time here and lyrics
from the songs that have impacted me greatly. It is a keepsake that we hold onto when the memory is
less clear. The sounds of the city will exist within myself even if I cannot hear them anymore.
